Jio's IPO, China's GDP: the leaders' week ahead, 19 to 25 October

Jio Platforms opens its public offer on Wednesday, a day after Indian markets shut for Dussehra. Around it sit China's third-quarter growth figures, a Bank Indonesia decision with the rupiah under pressure, and results from Tesla and Infosys. Here is the week, day by day, and why each date matters to boards in India, the Gulf and Asia.

Jio's IPO, China's GDP: the leaders' week ahead, 19 to 25 October

At a glance: WCRC Leaders' assessment: this is a week about the price of capital in Asia, and the Jio Platforms book will tell boards more about investor appetite for Indian risk than any economic release. The anchor book for Jio Platforms opens on Monday 19 October, the same morning China's National Bureau of Statistics publishes third-quarter GDP. Bank Indonesia's board meets on 20 and 21 October. Tesla reports after the US close on 21 October, the Jio public offer runs from 21 to 23 October, and Infosys reports on 23 October.

Why does Monday matter so much?

Two events set the tone. First, Jio Platforms Limited takes bids from anchor investors. Its red herring prospectus, dated 14 October 2026, names Monday 19 October as the Anchor Investor Bidding Date. How much anchor institutions take is the first hard signal of demand.

Second, at 10:00 Beijing time, China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) releases its quarterly report on national economic performance, with third-quarter GDP. September activity data comes in the same slot.

The comparison point is soft. The NBS reported first-half growth of 4.7%, with growth slowing from 5.0% in the first quarter to 4.3% in the second. Within that, retail sales of consumer goods rose only 1.3% in the first half and fixed-asset investment fell 5.7%.

Why it matters for boards: Chinese demand helps set prices for Gulf crude and petrochemicals and for Asian components, and Chinese export pricing sets the competition Indian manufacturers face at home. A further slowdown in investment would point to weaker commodity demand and more pressure from cheap Chinese exports. For boards weighing China plans, WCRC has set out how to plan for China after the Washington summit.

What happens while India is closed on Tuesday?

Indian equity markets are shut on Tuesday 20 October for Dussehra, under the National Stock Exchange's 2026 holiday circular, so Indian investors digest China's numbers and the Jio anchor book a day late.

The same day, Bank Indonesia's Board of Governors begins a two-day meeting in Jakarta on 20 and 21 October. At its last meeting, on 22 and 23 September, the bank held the BI-Rate at 5.75%. It said that decision was "consistent with the strategy to stabilise the Rupiah exchange rate amid persistently strong external headwinds". The rupiah stood at Rp17,855 to the dollar on 22 September, 0.78% weaker than at the end of August.

August inflation was 3.19%, up from 2.88%, inside a target of 2.5% ±1%.

In Washington, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes state employment and unemployment for September at 10:00 Eastern Time.

Why it matters for boards: Indonesia is a large market for Indian and Gulf firms in consumer goods, mining, energy and banking. A weak rupiah raises local partners' dollar-debt costs and shrinks profits sent home. A hike to defend the currency would mark further tightening in Asia. India has already moved: WCRC has examined India's first rate hike since 2023 and what it means for capital spending.

What does Wednesday bring?

Wednesday 21 October is the busiest day of the week.

The Jio Platforms public offer opens. The issue committee approved a price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share on 14 October, as disclosed by Reliance Industries to the stock exchanges. Bids must be in multiples of 12 shares, and eligible employees get a discount of ₹54 per share. The prospectus describes a fresh issue of up to 270 million shares, with no offer for sale. On WCRC's calculation, that values the issue at about ₹28,755 crore at the floor and ₹30,213 crore at the cap. Up to ₹2,500 crore is reserved for eligible Reliance shareholders, and at least 35% of the net issue for retail investors.

Bank Indonesia announces its decision the same day.

After the US market closes, Tesla posts its third-quarter results, with a live webcast at 4:30 pm Central Time. That is 3:00 am on Thursday in India and 1:30 am in the UAE. Tesla's own update says it delivered 486,532 vehicles in the quarter, produced 464,391 and deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage.

Why it matters for boards: Because Jio is all fresh shares, the money goes into the company rather than to selling shareholders, which makes the result a direct test of how much new capital Indian markets can absorb in one week. A strong book helps every Indian company planning a listing; a weak one delays some. Tesla's commentary on battery costs and pricing will be read closely by vehicle and storage suppliers across India and Asia.

What do Infosys and Japan reveal at the end of the week?

The Infosys board meets on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October and will review audited results for the quarter and half year to 30 September on 23 October, according to the company's exchange notice. It will also consider an interim dividend.

The bar is low. For the first quarter, Infosys reported revenue of $5,082 million, up 2.4% in constant currency, and an operating margin of 21.1%. It narrowed its full-year growth guidance to 1.5% to 3.0% in constant currency and kept its margin range of 20% to 22%. Chief executive Salil Parekh said then that "AI momentum is now rapidly converting into revenue". Friday's figures will test that claim. Infosys has been selected by the Business Intelligence Unit of WCRC among India's Most Loved 250 Workplaces 2026, as have Hindustan Unilever and Reliance Industries.

On Friday, Japan's Statistics Bureau publishes national consumer prices for September. The Jio Platforms offer closes the same day; the prospectus sets 7:00 pm India time as the cut-off for UPI mandates.

Why it matters for boards: Infosys is a bellwether for technology budgets in the US and Europe, and for Indian technology hiring, where WCRC has charted a two-speed job market. Gulf and Asian clients buying AI work will learn whether deals are turning into revenue. Japanese inflation feeds into the Bank of Japan's decision at the end of the month, and so into the yen, Japanese funding costs and Japanese investment in India.

What is not on this week's calendar?

Three dates fall just outside it. The European Central Bank meets on 28 and 29 October. The Bank of Japan meets on 29 and 30 October. Hindustan Unilever's board meets on 28 October.

The WCRC View

  • The Jio book is the signal to watch. The WCRC Business Intelligence Unit expects the anchor allocation on Monday to tell boards more about the price of Indian equity than any data release this week. A fully covered book at the cap would reopen the listing window for large Indian companies.
  • Asia's rate cycle is turning. India has raised rates, Bank Indonesia is defending a weak currency and Japan's inflation data feeds a meeting next week. Finance chiefs in India and the Gulf with Asian debt should test their refinancing plans for higher rates and weaker currencies now, not after the decisions.
  • China's numbers are an export-pricing question. If investment stays negative, expect more low-priced Chinese goods in Indian, Gulf and South-east Asian markets. Manufacturers should check their pricing and anti-dumping options.
  • Infosys is the AI revenue test. Read its deal mix for proof that AI work adds revenue rather than replacing it.
  • What WCRC will watch next: the Jio listing date and first-day trading, the ECB and Bank of Japan decisions on 29 and 30 October, and Hindustan Unilever's board meeting on 28 October.
